Damani Morales, 19, of Stamford was arrested for the March 10 armed robbery of a 39-year-old man on the corner of Stillwater Avenue and Virgil Street that landed the victim in the hospital with serious injuries, said Stamford Police Capt. Rich Conklin.
Morales was charged with armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, first-degree assault, conspiracy to commit first-degree assault and criminal mischief for the beating and robbery.
Another man, Sergio Blanco, 23, was arrested two weeks ago and charged with robbery for his role in the attack, police said.
The victim was attacked with a metal pipe and needed staples to close the numerous cuts and wounds and his head and around his eyes.
After the crime, and following Blanco's arrest, Morales when underground, hiding out in a small apartment on Greenwich Avenue.
Intel came into the department revealing his location and members of the Narcotics and Organized Crime squad, the Special Response Team, and uniformed patrol officers raided the apartment early in the morning and were able to apprehend Morales without incident, Conklin said.
During the raid, Conklin said officers found two ounces of marijuana, two grams of cocaine, a digital scale and a .32 caliber C-Kamp semi-automatic pistol.
The loaded gun was reported stolen in Wallingford in 2013, Conklin said.
Conklin said Morales was also wanted on two warrants for failing to appear in court on two other cases.
In connection with the drugs and gun, Morales was charged with possession of narcotics, possession of narcotics with intent to sell, theft of a firearm and conspiracy charges.
He is being held on a total combined bond of $290,000, Conklin said.
Also arrested at the apartment was Shayaa Brown, 20, of Norwalk.
Brown was charged with various drug charges and held on $100,000 bond.
